Gosh, another week has come and gone! Time is continuing to
fly by, and I am still experiencing many firsts.
So here is the first of the firsts!
Our school went on a trip to a honey producing bee farm. It was located in a
cute little village that could only be reached by boat. One of the beekeepers
at this farm gave us a wonderful tour of the facilities, and taught us
everything we wanted to know about bees and honey production! We even got to
taste the large variety of honey they produce. So good! And here comes my first…I
actually held and touched the bees! Willingly! For as long as I can remember, I
have strongly disliked bees! It is kind of silly how much I dislike them. I
have been stung several times in the past, and know it doesn’t even hurt that
bad, but the sight or sound of a bee forces me to “bee” line it straight
indoors! It’s like a reflex…bee=hide for dear life! Shockingly, I was completely
comfortable holding the swarming honeycomb, and I even petted a good number of
the bees. It was very out of character for me, and I’m kind of weirded-out just
thinking about it, but it was actually pretty cool in the moment!
Yesterday, I experienced another first, which was
modeling! Our costumes are finally finished, and my studio class had our photo
shoot with our completed costumes. We were paired with a photo student, who was
responsible for shooting us. The best picture will be chosen to be displayed in
NC State’s Art-to-Wear, which is an annual fashion show that takes place in the
spring. It is a pretty big deal for the College of Textiles, and thousands of
people attend each year. Yikes!
Seeing as a picture of me will be shown to many many people,
I would prefer to look somewhat presentable. But of course, my body loves to
make me look horrendous whenever I am trying to look good. It is some sort of
sick curse that my body thinks is a joke, so it is only natural I would break
out the morning of the shoot! I woke up with Orion’s Belt forming on my
forehead, and Mt. Everest growing on my chin! Not a flattering combo!
I then show up at the photo shoot, and the hair and makeup
artist has decided to make all of our hair and make up look the same, so the
pictures coincide with each other. In my mind I was envisioning myself with big
eyes, shimmery lips, and long flowy hair, but of course, she chooses just the
opposite! We all had to have slicked back hair, no eye make up, and bright red
lips! Are we kidding?! That is a nightmare and a half and another HORRIBLE
combo!
Luckily, the make up artist was tied up when I needed to get
ready, so ROBERT VANO did my hair and make-up!!! I cannot complain about that!
So, I was all ready to go and Kent, my photographer, kindly
took pictures of me for a good 30 minutes. Hope he got a good one! Though it was fun modeling for 30 minutes, but I am
so glad this isn’t something I have to do on a regular basis!
My costume was based off the Czech fairy tale, Golden
Hair. We had to create the outfit based
off of a phrase from the story, so my inspiration came from the phrase, “She
was as beautiful as a morning’s rising sun.” I picked colors found in a sunrise, exaggerated them and created a dress for Princess Golden Hair. Our costumes
also had to be constructed with 80% recycled material, so the majority of my
dress is made out of curtains! That was my favorite requirement of our project!
Here is a picture from when my roommates and I tried on our costumes for the first
time!
Earlier this week, Kimberly, Elizabeth and I ventured out to
the movie theatre for the first time since being in Prague! We saw The Hunger
Games…and it was in ENGLISH!! We are all super silly excited to see an American
movie, in a theater!!
Briana and I also had some
fun adventure time together earlier this week too! A highlight was dancing
infront of the Dancing House!
Another great week down, and
a fun one to look forward to! I am getting very excited because I leave for
Wales early Friday morning, to spend a week with my very best friend PRESSLY BLACKLEY!!!
